INGILIZCE NARRATIVE VERB FORMS (INCL. PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS) – ANLATI FIIL ŞEKILLERI (SÜREKLI MIŞ’LI) – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

Anlatı fiil şekillerini hikaye anlatmak için kullanırız.

We use narrative verb forms to tell a story.

We use the Past Simple for completed actions in the past. We use it to tell the main events of the story in the order that they happened.

(Di’li Geçmiş Zamanı geçmişte tamamlanmış olan eylemler için kullanırız.Onu hikayenin başlıca olaylarını, oluş sıralarına göre anlatmak için kullanırız.)

eg. One day, he went for a walk in a forest and came across an abandoned house.(Örnek: Bir gün, yürüyüş için ormana gitti, ve yolda terk edilmiş bir evle karşılaştı.)

We use the Past Continuous for a longer action that was in progress when another action happened. (Sürekli Geçmiş Zamanı, başka bir eylem olurken devam eden daha uzun bir eylem için kullanırız.)

eg. While he was walking past the house, he heard a strange sound coming from it.(Örnek: Evin önünden geçerken, içinden gelen tuhaf bir ses duydu.)

We also use the Past Continuous for background information that isn’t part of the main story.(Sürekli Geçmiş Zamanı aynı zamanda, ana hikayenin parçası olmayan arka plan bilgileri içinde kullanırız.)

eg. That summer, Chris and his family were taking a holiday in Germany.(Örnek: O yaz, Chris ve ailesi Almanya’da tatil yapıyorlardı.)

NB: We also use the Past Continuous when two longer actions are happening at the same time.(NOT: Sürekli Geçmiş Zamanı ayrıca iki uzunca eylemin aynı zamanda meydana gelmesi durumunda da kullanırız.)

eg. Chris was taking a walk while his wife was cooking dinner.(Örnek: Karısı akşam yemeğini pişirirken, Chris yürüyüşe çıkmıştı.)

We often use when, while and as with the Past Continuous.(Sürekli Geçmiş Zamanda sıklıkla “when, while ve as” kullanırız.)

eg. The postman arrived as I was walking out the door.(Örnek: Postacı kapıdan çıkarken vardı.)

We don’t usually use while or as with the Past Simple.(Genellikle Di’li Geçmiş Zaman ile “while” veya “as with” kullanmayız. )

We usually use the Past Perfect Simple to talk about an action that was completed before another action in the past.(Yalın Miş’li Geçmiş Zamanı, geçmişteki başka bir eylemden önce tamamlanmış bir eylem hakkında konuşmak için kullanırız.)

eg. Before he left he had kissed his wife goodbye.(Örnek: Gitmeden önce eşine bir veda öpücüğü verdi.)

We usually use the Past Perfect Continuous for a longer action that started before another action in the past.(Yalın Miş’li Geçmiş Zamanı genellikle geçmişteki başka bir eylemden önce başlamış olan daha uzun bir eylem için kullanırız.)

eg.He had been walking for half an hour when the house appeared (Örnek: Ev göründüğünde, yarım saattir yürüyordu.)

NB: If the order of events is clear we don’t usually use the Past Perfect.(NOT: Olayların sıralaması açık ise eğer, genellikle Miş’li Geçmiş Zaman kullanmayız.)

eg. I had a shower, got dressed and went to work.(Örnek: Duş aldım, giyindim ve işe gittim.)

When we are telling a story and we have established the time, we can continue the story in Past simple or Past Continuous. We don’t have to continue using the Past Perfect.(Bir öykü anlattığımızda ve saatini tespit ettiğimizde, öyküyü anlatmaya Di’li Geçmiş Zaman veya Sürekli Geçmiş Zamanda devam edebiliriz. Miş’li Geçmiş Zamanı kullanmaya devam etmemiz gerekmez bu durumda.)

eg. A few years earlier I’d bought a ticket to South Africa to visit friends. A friend of mine was working on a safari there and I wanted to get some work experience. As soon as I stepped onto the plane… (Örnek: Birkaç yıl önce, bir arkadaşı ziyaret etmek için, Güney Afrika’ya bir bilet aldım.Bir arkadaşım orada bir Safari organizasyonunda çalışıyordu ve biraz çalışma tecrübesi edinmek istiyordum.Uçağa biner binmez…)

Past Perfect Simple (Yalın Miş’li Geçmiş Zaman)

FORM: Subject + had + past participle (ŞEKİL: Özne + had + geçmiş zaman ortacı)

eg. I had been to ten auditions before this one.(Örnek: Bundan önce on seçmeye katıldım.)

She hadn’t seen a tiger in the wild before.(Daha önce doğal ortamda bir kaplan görmemişti.)

Questions: (Question word) + had + subject + past participle

(Sorular: (Soru kelimesi) + had + özne + geçmiş zaman ortacı)

eg. Where had he left the car before he went to the concert?(Örnek: Konsere gitmeden önce arabayı nereye bıraktı?)

What had she done with the knife from the scene of the crime? (Suç olay yerindeki bıçakla ne yaptı?)

Past Perfect Continuous (Sürekli Miş’li Geçmiş Zaman)

FORM: Subject + had + been + verb + ing (ŞEKİL: Özne + had + been + fiil + ing)

eg. He had been trying to find his keys for days. (Örnek: Günlerden beri anahtarlarını bulmaya çalışıyor.)

He hadn’t been looking very hard.(O yeterince fazla aramadı.)

Questions: (Question word) + had + subject + been + verb + ing

(Sorular: (Soru kelimesi) + had + özne + been + fiil + ing)

eg. Where had he been walking for so long? (Örnek: Bu zamandan beri nereye yürüdü?)

What had she been doing all this time? (Tüm bu zamandan beri ne yaptı?)

NB: We can use by the time, when, because, so, before, after, as soon as and until to make sentences with the Past Perfect.

(NOT: ”By the time, when, because, so, before, after, as soon as ve until” Miş’li Geçmiş Zaman ile cümleler kurmak için kullanabiliriz.)

eg By the time we arrived, the film had already started. (ör. Vardığımızda, film başlamıştı bile.)

We don’t have to use the Past Perfect with because, so, before, after, as soon as or until because the order of events is usually clear.

(“Because, so, before, after, as soon as veya until” ile Miş’li Geçmiş Zaman kullanmamız gerekmiyor, çünkü olayların oluş sırası genellikle açıktır.)

eg. I (had) turned off the TV before i went to bed.(ör. Yatağa gitmeden önce televizyonu kapatmıştım.)

I waited until everyone (had) sat down at the table.(Herkesin masada yer almasını bekledikten sonra oturdum.)

We often use the Past Perfect after knew, realised, thought, forgot and remembered.(Miş’li Geçmiş Zaman çoğu zaman “knew, realised, thought, forgot ve remembered” den sonra kullanırız.)

eg. I thought you’d forgotten our anniversary.(ör. Yıldönümümüzü unuttuğunu sanmıştım.)

He realised he had left his laptop in the library. (O laptop’unu kütüphanede unuttuğunu bıraktığını fark etti.)
