INGILIZCE SECOND CONDITIONAL – İKINCI KOŞULLU – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

We use the “second conditional” to talk about situations or actions in the present or future, which are not likely to happen or are imaginary, hypothetical or impossible.
(İngilizce’de (“second conditional”) İkinci koşulluyu şimdiki zaman veya gelecekteki, olma ihtimali zayıf, hayali, varsayımsal veya imkansız durum veya eylemler hakkında konuşurken kullanırız.)

FORM (Şekil) :
If + subject + past simple, subject + would + infinitive
If + özne + di’li geçmiş zaman, özne + would + mastar)

NB: The contraction of “would” is “‘d” and the contraction of would not is “wouldn’t”.
(NOT: İngilizce’de ” would ” ın kısaltması ” ‘d ” ve ” would not ” un kısaltması ” wouldn’t” dır.)

Second conditional Examples (Örnek):
If I had enough money, I’d buy that jacket. (I haven’t got enough money)
(Yeterli param olsa, o ceketi alırdım.) (Yeterince param yok)

If I had some free time, I’d go with you. (I don’t have any free time)
(Boş vaktim olsaydı, seninle gelirdim.) (Boş vaktim yok)

The “if” phrase can come first or second.
(“If” sözcük öbeği ilk yada ikinci sırada gelebilir.)

Examples (Örnekler):
If I won the lottery, I’d travel around the world.
(Piyangoda kazansam, dünya seyahatine çıkardım.)

I’d travel around the world if I won the lottery.
(Dünya seyahatine çıkardım, piyangoda kazansam.)

NB: With the verb be you can use were instead of was after I/he/she/it.
(NOT: “Be” fiili ile “I/he/she/it” den sonra “was” yerine “were” kullanabilirsiniz.)

Examples (Örnekler):
If I were younger, I’d come with you.
(Daha genç olsaydım, senin ile gelmek isterdim.)

If she were rich, she’d move to the Caribbean.
(Zengin olsa, Karayiplere taşınmak isterdi.)

We often make questions in the second conditional with “What would you do …?”.
This phrase can come at the beginning or the end of the question.
(Second conditional larda sıklıkla “What would you do…?” şeklinde sorular sorarız.
Bu sözcük öbeği sorunun başında yada sonunda yer alabilir.)

Examples (Örnekler):
What would you do if someone gave you a million dollars?
(Biri size bir milyon dolar verse ne yapardınız?)

If someone asked you to jump off a cliff, what would you do?
(Eğer biri size bir uçurumdan atla dese, ne yapardınız?)

We can use other modal verbs in place of ‘would’.
(“Would” yerine başka yardımcı fiilleri de kullanabiliriz.)

Examples (Örnekler):
If I had more money, I could buy a car.
(Daha fazla param olsa, bir araba alabilirdim.)

If I won the lottery, I might give all the money to charity.
(Piyangoyu kazansam, belkide kazandığım tüm parayı hayır işleri için kullanabilirdim.)

Let’s compare the First Conditional with the Second Conditional.
(Birinci Koşulluyu İkinci Koşullu ile karşılaştıralım.)

First conditional: If she studies hard, she’ll pass the exam.
(First Conditional: O eğer sıkı çalışırsa, sınavı geçecektir.)

– She’s a good student and I think she might pass the exam = possible situation
(- O iyi bir öğrenci ve onun sınavı geçebileceğini düşünüyorum = olası bir durum)

Second conditional: If she studied hard, she’d pass the exam.
(Second conditional: O eğer sıkı çalışırsa, sınavı geçebilir.)

– She’s not a good student and she never studies, so I don’t think she will pass the exam = imaginary situation
(- O iyi bir öğrenci değil ve hiç çalışmaz, bundan dolayı onun sınavı geçeceğini sanmıyorum = hayali bir durum)
