INGILIZCE PAST PERFECT – MIŞLI GEÇMIŞ ZAMAN – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

We use the Past Perfect when you are already talking about the past, and want to talk about an earlier past action.
(Mişli geçmiş zamanı, zaten o anda geçmiş hakkında konuşuyor ve daha önceki bir geçmiş eylem hakkında konuşmak istersek kullanırız.)

FORM (Şekil):
Subject + had + past participle
(Özne + had + geçmiş zaman sıfat-fiili)

Examples (Örnekler):
When I woke up the garden was all white. It had snowed in the night.
(Uyandığımda bahçe tümüyle beyaza bürünmüştü.Gece kar yağmıştı.)

I arrived at the restaurant 20 minutes late and my date had already gone.
(Lokantaya 20 dakika geç ulaştım ve o anda randevuya çıkacağım kişi çoktan gitmişti bile.)

Halfway through the film, I realised I had seen it before.
(Filmin yarısına doğru geldiğinde, o filmi daha önce seyretmiş olduğumu fark ettim.)

The Past Perfect expresses the idea that something occurred before another action in the past. It can also show that something happened before a specific time in the past.
(Mişli geçmiş zamanda, geçmişteki bir eylemin, geçmişteki başka bir eylemden önce gerçekleştiği ifade edilmeye çalışılır.Aynı zamanda geçmiştedeki belli bir zamandiliminden önce bir şeyin meydana geldiğini sergileyebilir.)

Examples (Örnekler):

I had never seen such a beautiful beach before I went to Kauai.
(Kauai’e gitmeden önce böylesine güzel bir plaj görmemiştim.)

I did not have any money because I had lost my wallet.
(Cüzdanımı kaybettiğimden dolayı yanımda herhangi bir para yoktu.)

Tony knew Istanbul so well because he had visited the city several times.
(Tony İstanbul’u daha önce birkaç defa ziyaret etmiş olduğundan dolayı, şehri bu kadar iyi biliyordu.)

Had Susan ever studied Thai before she moved to Thailand?
(Susan Tayland’a taşınmadan önce hiç Thai dilini öğrenmeye çalışmışmıydı?)

She only understood the movie because she had read the book.
(Kitabı okuduğundan dolayı filmin konusunu anlayabiliyordu.)

Kristine had never been to an opera before last night.
(Dün geceye kadar Kristine hiç operaya gitmemişti.)

We were not able to get a hotel room because we had not booked in advance.
(Önceden rezervasyon yapmadığımzdan dolayı boş bir otel odası bulamadık.)

A: Had you ever visited the U.S. before your trip in 2006?
(A: 2006’daki seyahatinizden önce hiç ABD’ye ziyarette bulundunuz mu acaba?)

B: Yes, I had been to the U.S. once before.
(B: Evet, ondan önce bir defa ABD’ye ziyarette bulundum.)

NB: The Past Perfect is the same for all persons! Be careful – “I’d can” be “I had” or “I would”.
