INGILIZCE DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSES WITH WHO, WHICH, THAT AND WHERE – İLGI TÜMCECIKLERI – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

We use relative clauses to say which person/place/thing we are talking about.
(Tanımlayan ilgi tümceciklerini hangi kişi/yer/şey hakkında konuştuğumuzu belirtmek için kullanırız.)

To introduce relative clauses we use:
(İlgi tümceciklerini ortaya çıkarmak için:)

– “who” or “that” for people
(- kişiler için “who” veya “that” kullanırız.)

Examples (Örnekler):
He’s the man who lives next door.
(O yanda yaşayan adam.)

She’s the woman that works in the cafe.
(O kafede çalışan kadın.)

– “which” or “that” for things
(-Nesneler için “which” yada “that” kullanırız.)

Examples (Örnekler):
A clock is a thing which tells the time.
(Bir saat zamanı gösteren bir şeydir.)

This is the letter that I was talking about.
(Bu hakkında bahsettiğim mektup.)

-” where” for places
(- Yerler için “where” kullanırız.)

Examples (Örnekler):
A post office is a place where you can buy stamps.
(Postane, pul alabileceğiniz bir yerdir.)

This is the restaurant where we had our first date.
(Burası ilk tanışma randevumuzun gerçekleştiği lokanta.)

NB: We don’t use “what” in relative clauses!
(NOT: “What” ilgi tümceciklerinde kullanılmaz!)

Examples (Örnekler):
These are the jeans that I want to buy. NOT These are the jeans what I want to buy.
(Bunlar satın almak istediğim kot pantalonlar. “These are the jeans what I want to buy” şekli KULLANILMAZ.))
