İngilizce’de sadece üç adet “article” bulunur : a, an, the.
There are only three articles in English: a, an and the. 

“A” sessiz harf ile başlayan isimlere atfen kullanılır (b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y or z)
Örneğin, “bir şehir”,”bir fabrika”, and “bir hotel”.

You use a when the noun you are referring to begins with a consonant (b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y or z), 
For example, “a city”, “a factory”, and “a hotel”.

“An” sesli harf ile başlayan isimlere atfen kullanılmaktadır (a, e, i, o, u) .
You use an when the noun you are referring to begins with a vowel (a, e, i, o, u) .

Belirsiz “a” ve “an” veya belirli “the” olmak üzere iki çeşit article bulunur. Article kullanılmayan durumlar da bulunur ve öğrenilmesi gerekmektedir.

There are two types of articles indefinite ‘a’ and ‘an’ or definite ‘the’. You also need to know when not to use an article.

“A” ve “An” belirtisiz article’dir. İsimlerden önce, daha önce sözünü etmediğiniz bir şey / bir kişi hakkında konuşulurken kullanılırlar. Konuştuğunuz kişinin bahsi geçen şey hakkında spesifik bir bilgisi olmadığını gösterir.

A and an are the indefinite articles. They refer to something not specifically known to the person you are communicating with.A and an are used before nouns that introduce something or someone you have not mentioned before.

For example:

“I saw an elephant this morning.” (Bu sabah bir fil gördüm.)
“I ate a banana for lunch.” (Öğlen yemeğinde bir muz yedim.)

“A” ve “An” mesleğiniz hakkında konuşulurken de kullanılmaktadır.
A and an are also used when talking about your profession.

For example:

“I am an English teacher.” (Ben bir İngilizce öğretmeniyim.)
“I am a builder.” (Ben bir inşaat ustasıyım.)

Daha önce sözü geçen bir şeyden bahsediyorsanız “the” kullanmalısınız. Aynı zamanda konuştuğunuz kişi bahsi geçen şeyi biliyor veya spesifik olarak ne hakkında konuştuğunuzu anlayabiliyorsa “the” kullanmalısınız.

You should use the when you have already mentioned the thing you are talking about.You also use the when you know that the listener knows or can work out what particular person/thing you are talking about.

For example: 

“The apple you ate was rotten.” (Yediğin elma çürüktü.)
“Did you lock the car?” (Arabayı kitledin mi?)
“She’s got two children; a girl and a boy. The girl’s eight and the boy’s fourteen.” (Onun iki çocuğu var; bir kız ve bir erkek. Kızı sekiz ve oğlu ondört yaşında.)

Küre üzerinde ceografik noktalar için “the” kullanılır.
We use the to talk about geographical points on the globe.

For example:

The North Pole, the equator (Kuzey kutbu, Ekvator)

Okyanuslar, denizler ve nehirlerden önce “The” kullanılır.
We use the to talk about rivers, oceans and seas.

For example:

The Nile, the Pacific, the English Channel

Sadece bir tane olduğu bilinen belirli isimlerden öne “The” kullanılır.
We also use the before certain nouns when we know there is only one of a particular thing.

For example:

the rain, the sun, the wind, the world, the earth, the White House etc.
